LATVIAN (for English plz scroll down):

ENGLISH:

It is nice when you come to a stage in blogging, when people start giving you tips and sending information on places you should check out. That is also how I got information about Garage – „Zane, why don’t you check it out and blog about it?” So after a serious stroll through the light festival Staro Riga, we were heading towards Berga Bazars with a hope that „democratic wine restaurant Garage” would have also something to eat apart from wine and would still offer it after 11pm.

A pleasant surprise was the notice on the doors that dinner is served till midnight on weekends and the chef Alexander (originally from Serbia, which I found out only later reading on internet) promised to take care of our bellies and prepare some tapas from what is still left in the kitchen. He did a great job in that kind of conditions – tapas were a whole adventure and revelation of tastes. When going there felt like having a hot wine, but being on the spot went for more aristocratic choice – Prosecco. And even though it maybe didn’t fit a very late dinner, it was a good choice non the less.

I knew about the place already long time ago, as it used to be a design store with a tiny cafe on the second floor. Now the design store is squeezed in a little corner and the place dominates with tables, open kitchen and lots of wine bottles. Prices could be called democratic (tapas for 5 people was 15 lats + wine) and the food was tasty, however it still seems that the place is just in search of its vibe/aura and I would also suppose that the menu will be larger, once it is in full bloom. Btw but you can already get oysters there. And funny enough, while writing about Garage, I realized that all of my fav wine places – Vina studija, Tinto and now Garage – are somehow located on the same – Elizabetes street.
